Begins 2:00am on the 2nd Sunday in March and ends 2:00am on the 1st day in November. Daylight Saving Time (DST) in the U.S. for 2019 begins March 10, 2019 and ends November 3, 2019.  The next Daylight Saving Time begins March 8, 2020 and ends November , 2020.

Daylight Saving Time is the practice of advancing clocks in advance of the summer months and reverting back before winter.

A way to remember which way the time shifts: In the Spring we advance 1 hour, or "Spring forward."  In the Fall, we revert the clock back 1 hour, or "Fall back."

It was initially enacted with the rationale to save energy. By shifting an hour of daylight from the early morning while most are sleeping, to the evening when we are more productive, reduced use of artificial light would result in energy conservation.  Although in modern times, one can argue we actually consume more energy with the extra hour of activity encouraged while it is still daylight out.

Not all states practice Daylight Saving Time.  Hawaii and Arizona do not participate in DST.  In fact some states are considering abandoning the practice, as the presumed benefits have been arguable.
