Small Business Saturday

Small Business Saturday is the Saturday after Thanksgiving. It is a counterpart to Black Friday (for the big box retaiers) and Cyber Monday (for the e-commerce stores). The "holiday" was initially founded by American Express in 2010 to promote its small business merchant holders. Small Business Saturday is now promoted throughout the year, especially in the month of December.

Small retailers often match the mass retailers in convenience and price. But when you shop from a small business, it becomes a more personal transaction. There is a story behind what you are buying. The interactions between consumer and retailer become more meaningful especially for the holiday season.

As an entrepreneur, I find the day inspiring, and fuels me for the rest of the year.

Take a break from the big box retailers. I encourage consumers to get out and shop "small" supporting local retailers and restaurants in person and online. Celebrate and support small businesses that make communities unique.

Make a BIG impact by shopping small.
